Phyllis Arlene Land Polzkill Hansen, 88, of Grand Island formerly of Alma, died on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Delano Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 3rd from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Fullerton Cemetery on Saturday, December 3rd at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s favorite charity. Phyllis Arlene Land Polzkill Hansen, was the sixth child of McKinley and Faye (Campbell) Land born on July 25, 1928 in Clarks, Nebraska. Her childhood years were spent in the Hordville and Central City, Nebraska areas. As a child she attended the Mount Zion Church at Hordville. In her early adult life she worked at Woody’s Café, Douthits Café, and Cold Storage in Central City. She then moved to the Alma area where she worked at the Depot Café and Lounge and cleaning for the Core of Engineers. Phyllis met her husband John William Polzkill in Central City. They married on August 1, 1949 in Central City. To this union 5 children were born, Billy Dean, Carol Lynn, Delbert Eugene, Ricky Lee, and Douglas William. During their married years they lived in the Central City and Marquette area. John passed away August 19, 1976. Phyllis later married Arnold Hansen, and they first resided in Marquette then moved to Republican City and eventually to Alma, Nebraska. Arnold then passed away, but Phyllis remained in Alma until she started having health problems in 2016. She then went to Byron, Nebraska to live with her daughter and husband, until August when she moved to Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Phyllis enjoyed playing cards, pickle cards, gardening, and doing embroidery work. She was featured in the Alma Newspaper with many of the items she had made, with the headline, “SANTAS LITTLE HELPER”. Her favorite musician was Johnny Cash, whom she saw in concert while vacationing with her children in Branson, Missouri. Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Billy Dean (Gloria) Polzkill, Carol Lynn (Peanuts) Volesky, Ricky Lee (Margaret) Polzkill, Douglas William Polzkill, and daughter-in-law Debbie Polzkill Miller; her grandchildren, Jonathan William, Elizabeth Margaret Polzkill, Jessica Arlene Roman, Brady Wilson, and great granddaughter; Audrina Polzkill, brother; Wendall (Peggy), sisters; Maxine Beckstrom, Betty Person, Jeanelle (Ken) Mort, Patricia (Frank) Gottuso, sisters-in-law Gail Land and Donna Mate, Margaret and brother-in-law Harley Riley, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by; her grandparents, parents, two husbands, son Delbert, brothers and wives; Virgil (Evelyn), Jerry (Velma), and Donald. Sisters and spouses; Dorothy (Arthur) Dreiks, Virginia (George) Hovey, Ethel (Louie) Dettman, Donna (Robert) Spires, brother-in-laws; Irvin Beckstrom, Marvin Person, Bernard and Paul Polzkill; sister-in-law; Fern Polzkill, and 10 nieces and nephews.
