Edith Dorthela Garrett

Edith D. Garrett, 67, of Central City, died on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at her home in Central City. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Heartland Evangelical Free Church - South building, with Pastor J.J. Springer officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 12th from 5-7 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. A private family interment will be held at a later time. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later time. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Edith was born on December 25, 1953 in York, to L. Dale and Marcella (Burgess) Perkins. She grew up in Bradshaw until she was 5 years old, when the family moved to Central City. She attended school in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1972. Following her graduation she attended Grand Island School of Business. She then worked at a carpet store for a couple of years, before attending the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. On May 31, 1981, she married Bradley Garrett at the United Methodist Church in Central City. They then moved to Polk, and Edith began working in the accounting department at Flesher Manufacturing in Columbus. Edith later began working at ISS in Aurora. Eventually Brad and Edith moved to the family farm near Central City. Edith decided to stay at home and take care of her children. After her daughters had grown, Edith began working at the extension office. After several years at the extension office Edith started an in-home daycare. She was able to keep the daycare open for several years, until her health would no longer allow her to work. Edith attended the Heartland Evangelical Free Church in Central City. She enjoyed sewing, singing, cake decorating, crocheting, word searches, card games and her daycare children. Her greatest love was getting to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bradley of Central City, her daughters; Sheila Garrett of Lexington, Rachael (Ryan) Mildenstein of Central City, Jessica (Nathan) Conklin of Central City, and Anna Garrett of Central City, her sister; Frances Jensen of Central City, her 6 grandchildren; Nolan, Henry, & Norah Mildenstein, and Ava, Olivia & Elyse Conklin and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Dwight and Charles Perkins, and one niece and one great-nephew.
