Loretta Gertrude Rodysill

Loretta Gertrude Rodysill, 88, of Central City, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, NE. Prayer Vigil Memorial services will be Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Deacon Rick Larson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to service time at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Central City Cemetery at a later date, as she has chosen to donate her body to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska. Gertrude was born in 1925 in Grainton, Nebraska to Tom and Loretta (Melia) Welsh. She grew up in Grainton and received her education there, graduating in 1943 from Grainton. She also attended University of Nebraska in Kearney. As a young woman, she and her family volunteered at the North Platte Canteen, serving troops on the trains during the war. Gertrude was united in marriage to Phares “Bud” Rodysill on May 21, 1949 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City. The couple were lifelong residents of Central City where Gertrude worked part-time for the County Assessor’s Office. She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, and Clarks VFW. Gertrude enjoyed various card clubs around town playing pitch, gin, bridge, and pinochle. She also enjoyed water aerobics at the Fitness Center in Central City. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Alan Rodysill of Houston, TX; Kerry and Marlene Rodysill of Central City, NE; Bruce and Wendy Rodysill of Bayard, NE; and Patrick K. Rodysill of Penn Valley, CA, a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and John Little of Ft. Collins, CO, five grandsons, Mick (Jenn) Rodysill; and Kris (Lindsay) Rodysill all of Lincoln, NE; Patrick A. Rodysill of Houston, TX; John Rodysill of Charleston, SC; and Matthew (Jennifer) Little of Ft. Collins, CO, two granddaughters, Andrea (Chad) Strahlo and Jennifer Little of Ft. Collins, CO, one great-granddaughter, Lydia Rodysill of Central City, NE, two great grandsons – Quinn and Blake Rodysill, a sister, Coletta Harris of Cheyenne, WY, and a special nephew, Roger and Jeanette Jensen of Grand Island, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phares “Bud” Rodysill on January 21, 2005, a brother, Jack Welsh, and a sister, Mary Adams.
