Marlene M. Larson, 87, of Stromsburg, entered eternal life with her savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Bryan Medical Center – West in Lincoln. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. at the church. Interment will be held at the Stromsburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Marlene was born on July 28, 1938, in Polk, Nebraska, to Forrest and Mildred (Dick) Anderson. She grew up on the family farm west of Stromsburg, and attended grade school at Polk County District #12. She then attended and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1955. She then went on to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and got her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later got her Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. On June 14, 1959, Marlene was united in marriage to Wallace “Wally” Larson in Polk, Nebraska. She began her teaching career in Lexington and then Central City. In 1966, they moved to Stromsburg where she continued to teach for 24 years. Marlene retired from teaching in 1998, but continued to be a substitute teacher for several years in Stromsburg and the surrounding communities. Marlene enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, traveling, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was an active member of the Stromsburg community and the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg. Marlene is survived by her children, Scott (Terri) Larson of Stromsburg, NE, Steve (Jody) Larson of Stromsburg, NE, Shelli (Craig) Hackenkamp of Stromsburg, NE; sister, Cheryl (Tom) Kess of Harrisburg, PA; sisters-in-law, Marlene Spires of Central City, NE and Marjorie Anderson of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Tyler, Lacey, Emily, Brandon, Ashley, Justin, Chase, and Kayla, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Larson; parents, Forrest and Mildred Anderson; grandson, Mickey Larson; granddaughter, Lindsay Larson; brother, Dr. Dale Anderson; and brother-in-law, Frank Spires.
