Randall J. Somer

Randy J. Somer, 66, of Grand Island, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, in the second week of February 2026. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Mark Hartley officiating. Burial of ashes will be held at the Westlawn Cemetery in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to his family to be designated at a later time. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Randy was born on April 7, 1959 to Ben and Phyllis (Bradwell) Somer in Grand Island. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. Following his graduation, Randy worked for a few years, before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served his country from 1982 until his honorable discharge in 1988. After his military service, he went to Nursing School at Central Community College in Grand Island and became a Registered Nurse. He was united in marriage to Lisa Ann Krenk, and to this union were two sons, Brian and Nick. While living in Grand Island, he worked for the Red Cross, Veteran’s Home in Grand Island, and Central Nebraska Home Healthcare, until his health no longer allowed him to work. Randy enjoyed golfing, and was a state champion golfer in his teens. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, any type of water sport, nature, and especially spending time at Johnson Lake. He was an absolute die-hard Husker fan. He was always fond of his cats as well. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Brian Somer of Lincoln and Nick (Erin) Somer of Fredericksville, OH; his siblings, Doug Somer of Grand Island and Cynthia Somer of Grand Island; and his 3 grandchildren. Randy was also considered a member of Lisa Krenk's family. His laugh and generous heart will be dearly missed by all family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lisa; his sister Lisa Somer; and infant brother, Benjamin Somer. Randy had such a humble and gracious spirit. He had the biggest heart and could lighten up the room with his joyous laughter. We miss him terribly and are blessed to have had him in our lives.
