Bernie L. Holtorf, 72, of Central City, died on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Bryan Medical Center West, in Lincoln. Military Celebration of Life Services will be on Saturday, July 25th at 11 o'clock a.m. at the American Legion building in Central City. In lieu of flowers the family requests your presence. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wagnerfuneral.com. Bernie was born on May 29, 1943 to August and Betty (Nitzel) Holtorf in Central City. Bernie grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1961. After graduation he joined the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged in 1963. He then lived in California until returning home to Central City, where he began working at the Ordinance Plant. In 1979, he started farming and worked at Atlantic Homes in Central City. He worked at Atlantic Homes until 2002 when his health forced him to retire. Bernie and Leigh (Garnette) were married on May 27, 1995 in Central City. Even with his health problems, he never lost his great sense of humor, and zest for life. He really enjoyed his horse, his dogs, and especially loved being outside. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City as well as the American Legion Lone Tree Post #6. Those left to cherish his memory are; his wife - Leigh Holtorf of Central City; son - Timothy (Brenda) Holtorf of Missouri; daughter - Sara (Mike) Penney of Cheyenne, WY; step-son - Rick Lollar, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; step-daughters - April (Steve) Schoenfelt of Peyton, CO; and Julie (Dustin) Schweitzer of Grand Island; brothers - Kent (Diana) Holtorf of Central City, and Jerry (Linda) Holtorf of Lincoln and ten grandchildren. Bernie was preceded in death by; his parents; his son - Adam Holtorf; brother - Ed Holtorf; and Sister - Sherry Holtorf.
