At this time, the family lived in Harrison, NE. She was the eldest child of this union, joined later by her sister, Susan, and her brother, Robert Dale Powell, Jr. Bunny started school in Lusk, WY. Her family moved from Harrison to Chadron on her twelfth birthday to expand their propane business. Bunny graduated from Chadron High School in 1965and Chadron State College in 1968 with a double Bachelor’s degree in English and Business. It was during her college years when she met the love of her life, Dwight “Scott” Edwin Malcolm III. To many people’s surprise, a mere six months later in August of 1968, the first date between this handsome rebel and the studious beauty turned into a marriage surviving 51 years. Bunny became a devoted mother with her firstborn, Michelle Celeste in 1970 and then a second daughter, Laurie Dee, in 1974. After relocating to Central City, NE in 1979, Dwight Edwin IV “Eddie” completed the family in 1980. Many summers were spent back in Chadron while Bunny completed a dual Master’s degree in English and Business. Bunny was a caring, passionate educator and a fun-loving, devoted friend. She loved camping, reading, and learning new things. Her adventurous spirit manifested itself in retirement when a leap of faith took the couple to the Black Hills of South Dakota. It turned out that retired teachers don’t much enjoy working in the summers, so after selling their campground, the couple settled in Gering, Nebraska in 2001.The couple enjoyed retired life fully. Bunny loved spending time with her grandchildren and hosting family holiday get-togethers, where you couldn’t leave without getting in a game or two of pitch. Bunny was a true fighter, battling both breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Scott doted on her until the very end. In November 2016, when he was no longer able to care for her at home, she entered Scottsbluff Care and Rehabilitation Center. Scott sat with her there nearly every day. She was well cared for by staff that became family to them both until her death on November 5, 2018. Bunny is survived by her loving husband, Scott, of Gering Nebraska; her three adoring children, Michelle (Ross) Heinen of Cheyenne, WY; Laurie O’Gorman of Waverly, NE; and Eddie (Jade) Malcolm of Gering, NE, and brother Bob (Deb) Powell of Spokane, Washington. She leaves behind nine grandchildren: Tanner O’Gorman, Hunter Heinen, Easton O’Gorman, Riley Heinen, Kaden Malcolm, Carsen Malcolm, Kellen Malcolm, Camden Malcolm and Axyl Wiles and two great-grandchildren, Aubriella Heinen and Preston O’Gorman, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she greatly enjoyed spoiling. Numerous other beloved family members and friends will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Susan (Gilbert) Veskerna, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
