Diana bravely fought and lost her two-year battle with ovarian cancer on Saturday, May 28, 2022. At the time of her death Diana was living in the Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to honor her passion for education through a memorial scholarship fund to be established at Central City High School for students who might not otherwise be able to continue their education after high school. Diana was born October 20, 1955 in Hastings, NE to George and Meredith E. (Pittenger) Tilson. She was one of 5 children born to the Tilson’s. While Diana was quite young it was determined that she and her brothers needed to be raised by extended family. Consequently, Diana was adopted by Clifford R. and Susie I. (Pittenger) Krumme. Susie was Meredith’s sister. Diana grew up in Elwood, NE on the family farm. She loved the farm and worked many hours alongside her Dad. Had it not been for her aptitude for mathematics she might have opted to stay on the farm; however, after graduating from Elwood High School she decided to go to college at Kearney State College. During her journey to get her degree she worked several other jobs to make ends meet. She graduated from UNK in December of 1983 with a degree in Education 7-12 mathematics and psychology. Teaching was her passion. She loved her students and they loved her back. She made it her priority to help every student no matter who they were or where they came from. Central City Public Schools was her first stop. She taught there from 1984-2000. Besides teaching math, Diana co-sponsored the Junior Class which meant fund-raising, planning and prom. Many a story can be told about prom decorating. Oh, how she loved getting ready for and putting on a prom for the kids. In the fall of 2000 Diana decided to go to Seward to teach. The opportunity allowed her to teach Psychology, as well as mathematics. Again, she made a difference to many students. Lastly, after 3 years, Diana took a position at Hastings Public School to be closer to her aging parents. One year after moving to Hastings Diana chose to go home to help her parents. She wanted to keep them at home if possible. Her compassion led her to stay home until both had passed on. She chose not to return to teaching and instead went to work in the retail grocery business. She retired from managing H & J Grocery in Eustis, NE shortly before she was diagnosed. She has been fighting the good fight with the cancer ever since. Family and friends were grateful when she was able to pass on because she had suffered a long painful battle. Diana was the kindest, most generous person. She believed in God and is most likely swapping stories and visiting with her parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who preceded her to heaven. Waiting for her in heaven were her parents: Clifford & Susie Krumme, George and Meredith Tilson, an infant sister, aunt and uncle, Glenn and Dorothy Lerdall, cousin Dennis Lerdall as well as many cousins on the Krumme side. Also waiting for her are good friends Barb Burke, Steph Hackbart and Connie Renken who passed in the past few years. Left to cherish her memory are her first cousins Terry Lerdall and Karen Hays, second cousins Jen Austin, Jodi Lerdall, Teresa Moore, Mindi Young, Heidi Church, and Katie Lerdall, multitudes of students and many numerous friends.
