Elise was born on August 11, 1934 to Edgar and Sophie (Blankenmeier) Cleaveland in Columbus. Elise was raised in the Belgrade area and attended school at District 14 in Nance County until 8th grade. Her family then moved to Central City when she was 15 years old. She remained in Central City until 1954. On February 21, 1954 Harold R. Mace and Elise Cleaveland were united in marriage at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City. They began their lives together in Osceola until 1956 when they moved to the farm south of Clarks, until 1964, when they moved into Clarks. In 1995 they moved to Central City. Harold and Elise were married for 55 years until his death on October 21, 2008. Elise worked at the Cold Storage in Central City. She was a nurses aide at Parkview Nursing Home, Litzenberg Hospital, Merrick Manor, and also for Janice Hesselgesser. She was baptized in the Peace Lutheran Church at Timber Creek near Belgrade, then confirmed in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City. When she moved to Clarks she then became a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarks. Elise never had idle hands. She was always doing something; from quilting, crocheting, and making afghans, to travelling to auctions and flea markets to add to her collection of Jewel Tea dishes. She always kept an immaculate house, and enjoyed baking and cooking. Her greatest love was for her family, and she especially enjoyed making Christmas stockings for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters - Barb (Dale) Church of Clarks, Sandy (Tim) Bolling of Central City, Linda (Roy) Montgomery of Guide Rock; one son - Russ (Janet) Mace of Central City; her brother - Clarence (Clara) Cleaveland of Omaha; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and special companion - Frank Harlow. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her sisters and brothers-in-law - Lavern (Glen) Colby and Alvera (Harvey) McIntire; and her brother and sister-in-law - Earl (Ruth) Cleaveland.
