Elvira E. Dexter, 101, of Central City, Nebraska died Friday, February 16, 2018 at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Lucas officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Bureau Cemetery by Pierce Chapel near Clarks. Elvira was born on May 8, 1916 in Merrick County, south of Chapman to Boyd and Ella (Raecke) Ferguson. Her mother died on December 23, 1918 and Elvira lived with her grandparents, Robert and Hedwig Raecke. She attended District 39 School for two years. She then went to live with her father Boyd Ferguson and Pearl Wait Ferguson until May of 1923. She attended District 33 through 8th grade. She then lived with Walter and Orral Raecke in Central City and attended school there. She graduated from Central City in 1933. Elvira then attended Nebraska Central College for two years. She taught District 25 Merrick County for three years. Elvira married Gerald Dexter on May 22, 1938 at his parent home (Pearl and M. C. Dexter) near Central City. Elvira and Gerald farmed there until they bought the Holms place in 1953. Elvira was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the building committee at Clarks after the church burned and then on the building committee in Central City. She led 4-H Clubs and served on the Extension Board. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Lucky Ladies Extension Club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, playing cards, and geneology. Elvira is survived by one son- Alan and Fran Dexter of Fargo, ND; one daughter- Joan and Jim Deaver of Wisner, NE; four grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband- Gerald; one son- Albert Harold; one sister- Dorothy Hobbs; two half brothers- Lester and George Ferguson.
