James (Jim) C. Glasgow

March 23, 1949 - May 9, 2013

James (Jim) C. Glasgow, 64, of Clarks, NE, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha. Memorial services will be Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Chaplain Lonnie Logan officiating. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Lone Tree Post #6. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 15, from 5-7 at the funeral home. Jim was born on March 23, 1949, in Scottsbluff, NE, to Louis H. (Gus) and Jane (Bowman) Glasgow. The family moved to Clarks early in Jim’s childhood, and he attended school in Clarks from 5th grade to graduation, in 1967. He enjoyed success playing football and was awarded all state honors as a senior on their state championship team. Jim passed on playing football in college to enter the United States Navy on October 12, 1967. He served two tours in Vietnam as a Seabee, and was honorably discharged on March 10, 1971. After serving his country, Jim returned to Clarks and began his career in the grain and fertilizer business at Clarks Grain, working for Ira Reisner. He later worked for Midland Ag Service for Roger and Barb Luebbe and later for Koch Ag. He completed his career at Trotter Fertilizer in Elba, NE for Jim and Virginia (Sis) Trotter, retiring in 2011. Jim convinced Judy Wieseman to marry him on August 15, 1987 and they made their home in Clarks, except for a short stint in Plainview. In Clarks, he was a member of the volunteer fire department and he and Judy were both members of the Clarks EMT team. He was also the Veterans Service Officer for the Clarks area. He also was the town Santa Claus numerous times handing out treats to the kids, and also visited family homes on Christmas Eve. He was a lifetime member of the Clarks VFW #4832, and served as Commander, District Commander and at the time of his death, was Quarter Master. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Lone Tree Post #6 of Central City, serving on term as Vice Commander. He was a past District 15 Commander, and Seabee Veteran of America. Jim and Judy enjoyed traveling and went to Mexico numerous times; Las Vegas with Charlie and Chris Starostka, and other friends; and traveled by bus to Washington to visit various sites. He was especially interested in visiting the Vietnam Veteran, and the Seabee memorials. He also attended the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans Reunion every year since 1988. Jim was a Co Chairman of Nebraska Agri Business Association and was a member of the Elks Club in Grand Island. He enjoyed coffee every morning with Kevin Guilford and Rod Pollard, and also helped cook the beans at Clarks Bean Days with Waldo Peterson. He was active in the community. He was a town board member and served two terms as Mayor of Clarks, and was also a retired member of Clarks Fire and Rescue. Survivors left to cherish the memories of this gruff old teddy bear are his wife, Judy Glasgow of Clarks, NE, his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Craig Wilhelm of Rising City, NE, a grandson, Austin Moore of Grand Island, NE, two granddaughters, Cierra Wilhelm of Lincoln, NE; and Meredith Wilhelm of Rising City, NE, a great grandson, Eli Langer of Lincoln, NE, one brother and a sister-in-law, Burr Glasgow of Peoria, IL, a sister, Nancy Glasgow of Hildreth, NE, a brother and sister-in-law -Dale and Cyndi Wieseman of Grand Island, NE and several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Jane Glasgow, his brother, Doug Glasgow, and his In-Laws, Glenn and Doris Wieseman.
