James Calvin "Jim" Schank

James Calvin “Jim” Schank, 80, of Central City, died on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 14th at 10:30 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church with Pastor Tess Hufford officiating. Burial will be at the Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Solt-Wagner Funeral Home south location, on Monday, July 13th from 5-7 p.m. Solt-Wagner Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of arrangements. Jim was born on July 14, 1934 in Central City to Raymond J. and Esther (Nelson) Schank. Jim grew up in the Archer area and graduated from Central City High School in 1952. Jim joined the United States Army on January 10, 1956 and proudly served until December 19, 1958. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Jim came back to work on the family farm near Archer and then in 1965 he raised Mink for 41 years until 2006. Due to his health Jim was forced to move to Long Term Care in March of 2011. On May 27, 1978, Jim was united in marriage to Candy Quaife in Grand Island. To this union were two children; Tonya and Shane.
Jim was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #6. Jim and Candy loved to travel, and were not only husband and wife, but they were best friends. His family and grandchildren were the love of his life.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife – Candy of Central City; daughter – Tonya Schank and Joe deMontigny of Burwell; son – Shane Schank and Kari Ang Schwarz of Central City; step-daughter – Monica Jones of Maquota, IA; grandchildren – Cole James and Ella Marcelyn Schank; brother – Charlie Schank; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Raymond, Sr. and Esther Schank; brother – Raymond Schank, Jr.; and one nephew – Gary Schank.
