Kenneth Franklin Charron was born on February 11, 1933 in Spalding, Nebraska to Luther William and Doris Irene (Clark) Charron. When Kenneth was 2 years old, the family moved to Central City. He attended Central City Public Schools and graduated from Central City High School in 1951, where he was a standout athlete. He then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two years, until he was drafted into the United States Army. While in the Army he served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, Kenneth moved back to Central City where he helped his father on the family farm. On January 22, 1960, Kenneth married Ruby Marie Beck in Grand Island. They would make their home near Central City on the farm, where he remained until his retirement in 2013. Kenneth was a very active and innovative farmer. He took a lot of pride in caring for his livestock and how well they were cared for. He loved to hunt, fish, participate in shooting sports, and in his younger years enjoyed playing fast pitch softball in Central City and Grand Island. Kenneth also loved to travel around the United States and abroad. He especially loved going on his fishing trips in Canada and spending time at the family cabin at Sherman Reservoir. He and Ruby were also avid bowlers, and bowled all of the way up until covid closed down the bowling alleys. He also was very involved in 4-H, and greatly enjoyed getting to teach his children and grandchildren how to raise, feed, and show their livestock during the county fair. There was a “Charron” who showed livestock in 4-H for 42 consecutive years, another thing that he was very proud of. Kenneth was a member of the First Christian Church. Kenneth was a founding member of the Central City Sportsman’s Club, a member of the American Legion Post #6, was on the bank board, as well as different county committees. He was also a member of the ASCS board, a member of the Platt Deutche, and Ag Men Fraternity while in college. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Ruby Charron of Central City, his children; Russell (Corinne) Charron of Central City, Audrey (Charron) Cover of Omaha, Karl (Wendy) Charron of Grover City, OH, Keith (Abigail) Charron of Hickman, Anna (Joseph) Dugas of Shreveport, LA, his sister; Kathryn (Charron) Schick of Curtis, 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; Max Charron and Harold (Joan) Charron, his brother-in-law; Don Schick and great-grandson; Kellen Charron.
