Patty May Gleason

May 22, 1956 - December 18, 2019

Patty May (Bailey) Gleason, age 63. A beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother of Central City passed away on December 18, 2019 at Bryan East hospital in Lincoln, NE. Memorial services will be Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Gordon Paulsen officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will be in the Central City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family and condolences can be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Patty was born May 22, 1956. She was one of 8 children by Bettie and W.K. Bailey of Palmer, NE. Patty grew up on the family farm and loved helping out. She loved music from a very young age and was a self-taught piano player. Through her school years, she played the trumpet and was a Palmer drum majorette for the school marching band. She would also occasionally go sing with “The Country Foulk Band”. Patty enjoyed playing softball and loved to bowl. She played for the Archer Red Hots and later coached for the Central City softball league. Patty was an excellent bowler and went to the women’s Nebraska State tournament for 32 years. She also was an Auxiliary Legion club member for 44 years and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Central City for 21 years. She also loved to write poetry and one of her most prestigious accomplishments came when one of her poems was published in a book of Nebraska poetry. Patty married Roger Stander and had 4 girls. Then, on September 22nd, 2001 Patty married Wayne Gleason and moved to Central City where she enjoyed spending time with family and friends and working in her garden. Patty loved all her grandchildren. She loved camping outside with them, taking them swimming, and letting them hide marbles for her and Grandpa to find. She especially loved her and Wayne’s “Fair” night where they treated all the grandkids to a special night at the county fair, no matter their age. She wore many hats for jobs. She enjoyed working at Fonner Park racetrack, running her own business “Moon Light Karaoke”, and working for those with special needs. She also worked as a cook for several businesses in the community and her final hat came as head cook at High Plains Elementary school where she enjoyed seeing the kids each day. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Keith and Bettie Bailey; her sister, Marlyn Friesen and one grandchild Zadie Purifoy. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Wayne Gleason; her four daughters, Tobby (Brad) Sorgenfrei of Phillips, NE, Natalie (Mike) Foulk of Archer, NE, Schavon (Cort) Cordsen of Central City, NE, and Lillie (Tyson) Chambers of Bennet, NE, and Kevin (Heather) Gleason, Jennifer (Alvin) Purifoy, Brittni Gleason, all of Minnesota. Patty’s Grandchildren include, Gaige, Bailey, Roger, Isabell, Gabriel, Colten, Sidney, Bettie, Bella, Tucker, Vandaley, Ellie, Landon, Logan, Tessa, Kyson, Julia, and Eve. She is also survived by her brother and sisters, Glen (Margie) Bailey of Lincoln, NE, Barbara Combs of Grand Island, NE, Janice Groetzinger of Grand Island, NE, Lonnie Shockley of Clarks, NE, Robert (Lisa) Bailey of Grand Island, NE, Tammy Dizmang of Grand Island, NE and brother-in-law Arlo Friesen of Aurora, NE; Several aunts, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and her beloved dogs.
