Bob grew up near Hordville, and graduated from Hordville High School in 1940. Following graduation he attended Nebraska Central College in Central City for two years. He then returned to the family farm and continued farming until his retirement in the mid 1980’s. Bob lived in the same house he was born in, until his health caused him to move to Central City in 2011. Bob’s life centered around his family, the community of Hordville, his dedication to farming, and his love of sports. Whether it was playing in the Hordville Band or school choir as a youth or singing in Church later in life, Bob shared his musical talents with his community. He was very well known for singing several hymns in Swedish and being a part of the Hordville Quartet. Bob was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Hordville, serving as Treasurer of the church for many years. He was also on the board for Lindale Cemetery, the Hordville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Hordville Elevator Board. Throughout his life, Bob was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed just about all sports, -- bowling, basketball, baseball, football, horseshoes and golf. He competed in sports whenever he could and followed them when he could no longer compete. He loved playing golf and was very competitive for many years. In retirement he played several rounds a week, and continued to do so until he was 88 years old. He was also a diehard Nebraska Cornhuskers fan and had season football tickets for over 50 years. He loved going to Husker football games and basketball games but also followed all of the other sports when the huskers were playing. He also enjoyed teaching his nephews and niece how to shoot a jumpshot, throw a ball or swing a golf club while they were growing up. He never missed one of their games or activities and continued to follow all of the activities their children pursued. Bob was a constant source of strength for his family throughout his life. He operated and managed the family farms, he watched over his aging parents and sisters, and he even became a surrogate father to Les and Kathy. Those left to cherish his memory are his sister; Helen Solt of Central City, his niece; Kathy (Cliff) Mesner of Central City, nephew; Robert King of Holdrege, niece-in-law; Genie Solt of Hayes Center, great-nieces and nephews; Ron Solt of Denver, CO, Mitch (Holly) Solt of Central City, Ashley Solt of Omaha and Amy Mesner of West Palm Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by; his parents and infant brother, his sisters; Blanche (Lennart) Johnson, Verna Erickson, Margaret (Adrian) Larson, Pearl (Orwin) White, Ruth (Dwight) King, and one nephew; Leslie Solt.
