Rogene E. Shoup, 91, of Central City, died on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Long Term Care Center in Central City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the United Presbyterian Church in Central City with Rev. Doug McHargue officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 3rd from 5-7 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. Interment will be at the Hordville Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Rogene E. Carlson was born on August 7, 1925 to E.A. and Blanche (Anderson) Carlson at her home in Marquette. On April 4, 1926 in infancy Rogene was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Central City by Rev. Phillip N. Shedd. On Ocotber 18, 1936 by faith she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Hordville, by Rev. M.V. Price of York. Rogene asked the Lord into her heart at the Polk Bible Camp. Rogene moved with her parents to Hordville, at the age of five and attended the Hordville High School, where she graduated from in 1942. Following graduation she attended the Quaker College, in Central City for one as well as York College for one year before attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics in 1946. She then continued on as the Assistant Manager of the Ag. College Cafeteria until her marriage to Emmett Shoup on June 1, 1947 at the United Presbyterian Church, in Central City. Rogene would rejoin the Presbyterian Church, in 1947. In 1977 she would be installed as an Elder, and was recognized for 50 years of membership during the 125th Anniversary of the Church in November of 1997. After living in Central City for two years where Emmett worked as a welder, they returned back to the farm to help her father E.A. Carlson. They continued living on the farm until Emmett was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1996, when he was moved to the nursing home in Central City. They then celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary the following year. Rogene was a chartered 50 year member of Merry Mothers Extension Club of Hordville, also 50 year member of Ced-ar-Sew Prairie Island Club, Hordville Promedas and card club. She belonged to a New Year’s Foursome for many years as well. Rogene enjoyed working in her big garden and her strawberry patch for sixty years. She canned all of her own fruits and vegetables, tended her lawn and flowers and plants year round. She had some of her greatest enjoyment while attending her children and grandchildren’s activities and games. The Shoup’s cabin on their land on Prairie Island entertained many friends, Mariners, card club groups, lodges, Motor Patrol, and family reunions. She was an avid traveler. She visited 48 states, Mexico, Canada, Hawaiian Islands, Alaska twice, London, and Paris. She collected elephants, tea pots, pitchers, and antiques. Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Karla Blase of Lincoln, Rhea Parsons of Clarks, and Kim (Kris) Shoup of Clarks; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by; her parents; husband – Emmett Shoup; son-in-law Rich Parsons; and a brother - Roger Carlson.
