Roma G. Pollard, 99, of Central City, formerly of Clarks, died Friday, December 19, 2014 at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10:30 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City with Monsignor Nelson Newman officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil at 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Wagner Funeral Home of Central City and Clarks is assisting the family. Roma was born on September 23, 1915 in Snyder, NE to Ernest and Laura (Nolan) Ruff. She grew up in St. Edward, Silver Creek, and Clarks areas. She received her education and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to Asa A. Pollard on November 17, 1938 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks. The couple lived in Clarks. Roma was employed at Farmer’s State Bank in Silver Creek from 1934 to 1937. She was a cashier at the Bank of Clarks from 1937 to 1943 She also was V.P. of Pollard Oil Company and was the bookkeeper there from 1939-1974. The couple also owned the Pollard Motel from 1945 to 1975, where Roma did all the cleaning and various other jobs. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and the Ladies Altar Society. She was the President of the Senior Club in Clarks for several years. She was Vice President of N.U. Catholic Ladies of Omaha, and served on the Clarks School Board from 1961-1965. Roma loved her family, home, and her Church. She also loved her flowers, garden, and many friends. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Rod (Loretta) Pollard of Clarks, NE; Randy (Connie) Pollard of Clarks, NE; and Jerry (Marti ) Pollard of Yankton, SD; one daughter- in- law- Mary Pollard of Grand Island, NE; one sister-in-law – Dolan Lindahl of California; eleven grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Asa Pollard who died in 1974, a son, Asa L. Pollard who died in 2007, two brothers, Victor Ruff and Lloyd (Lois) Ruff, one sister in law – Julia Osborne, and one grandchild – Andy Pollard and a great grandson – Jack Pollard. Memorials are suggested to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Clarks Catholic Cemetery for Perpetual Care, and condolences may be sent to the family at www.wagnerfuneral.com.
