Susan "Sue" Gress

Susan “Sue” Gress, 64, of Central City, died at her home on Friday, April 1, 2016. Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11 o'clock a.m. at the chapel of Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Janet Burgel officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 6th from 5-8 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Sue Stephens was born on April 23, 1951 to Clyde Curtis and Myrtle Lucille (Stamp) Stephens in Woodland, California. Sue grew up in California, graduating from Santa Ana Valley High School in 1969. Following graduation, Sue travelled around the United States, living in several places from coast to coast until finding her permanent home in Central City, Nebraska in 1974. While in Central City, on July 31, 1976 Sue and Galen “Butch” Gress were united in marriage. While living in Central City, Sue had an in-home daycare for 18 years, she then began working in the kitchen at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital, as well as Central City Care Center where she would eventually have to retire due to her health in November of 2012. Sue would do absolutely anything for her family. It didn’t matter what they needed, she would always be there for them. She loved to read and play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She wanted everyone to know to enjoy what time you have, you never know how much you have left. Deer hunting was also one of her many enjoyments in life. She always cherished that she got to see Jordan get her first deer. The same year (2013) two other grandchildren; Haylee and Hunter also were able to harvest their first deer. Getting to watch Dakota wrestle, Jacob in derby car, Alison play volleyball and spending time with her grandchildren on grandparent’s day in school with all of her “babies” were some of the greatest memories of her life. Sue also enjoyed sewing, crafts of all kinds, gardening, playing cards, and crochet. Out of everything that Sue got to do, her greatest love of all was being a homemaker, caring for her husband Butch, and children. Those left to cherish her memory are; her husband Butch of Central City, her children; Cari Lin (Jeff) Peabody of Austin, TX, Brandy Sue (Steven) Lunsford of Franklin, NE, Douglas Carlton (Melissa) Cooper of Carrol, IA, and Jeffrey Allen (Shannon) Gress of Clarks, NE; her brothers and sisters; Brenda Bale of CA, Arthur Stephens of MI, Sandy Castonguay of CA, Gary Back of NV, and Rose Stephens of MO; 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws. She also had an insurmountable number of inspiring and amazing friends. She was preceded in death by; her parents; Clyde Stephens, Tom and Myrtle Back; her siblings; Bob Stephens, Chester Stephens, Bill Back, and Dewey Back; grandparents; Chester and Eileen Stamp; in-laws; Stanley and Pearl Gress; and grandson; Will Ryder McCrary and nephew; Brian Gress.
