Tim Alan Christensen

Tim was born on May 26, 1960 to Dean and Mona Christensen (Munn) in Central City Ne. He grew up on the family farm/feedlot. He attended Country School District 18 until 5th grade he then attended Central City Public Schools, graduating High School in 1979. While in High School Tim played football, wrestled, participated in Vocational Agriculture. He also boxed from an early age and played baseball and 4-H club, went camping and boating with his family in the summers and off to many boxing events. While growing up Tim worked on the farm and boy, did he work. Tim had a huge work ethic. He always thought there’s no time to be sick. He loved his horses starting at a very young age and always wanted a cow herd. He loved going to cattle sales with his grandpa Carroll.Growing up he was baptized in the St. Paul Lutheran Church. It was during his childhood years that he met the love of his life, Ann. They became High School sweethearts. Tim joined the United States Marine Corps in 1979 following graduation. He left for training and was stationed at Mare Island Naval Base for a short time, after basic training. This is where he met Officer Nelson Dunkel who took Tim under his wing. He was like a father to him. He respected Tim so much he loaned him his very expensive sports car to drive. Tim then went on to Camp Pendleton CA for his first duty station. He went to Infantry Training School for Rifleman and earned a Sharpshooters Badge, Letter of Appreciation and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a Military Police on the base for a while. Tim came back and married Ann (Campbell) on October 11, 1980 at the United Methodist Church in Central City. Following the wedding Tim took his bride back to CA to start their life. There they lived in Fallbrook, CA for 11 months and then Tim was transferred to Camp Lejeune to be on the USMC Boxing team. This is where his boxing career took off. They remained there until his Honorable Discharge in 1982. While Tim was in the USMC he had been on TV and gained exposure to the American Boxing Federation. They saw his talent and he was invited on boxing tours to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Yugoslavia, Poland and Russia. Tim and Mike Tyson were on the same team for the Scandinavian countries tour. They were the only two that had won gold medals on the team and were in the Finland paper. Tim had over 200 bouts during his boxing career. Losing very few. Tim boxed on ESPN and National TV stations during his career. Won the ALL-Marines all three years in the Corps. Participated in the World Military Cup, losing to a Korean boxer. After leaving the service Tim’s boxing career continued. He qualified to train for the 1984 Olympic Trials and trained at the Colorado Springs Training Center for a month. He went on to the semifinals and lost to a split decision. Tim had an offer to go pro but we said no. This was retirement from boxing. Tim and Ann returned to Central City to the farm. They lived in Central City from 1982-1986. In 1986 they moved to Fullerton Ne where Tim managed the feedlot that they were co-owners in. There they raised their three boys. Tim loved taking his boys out on the feedlot and show them how to work. He would tell them “you are going to muck stalls before you get to drive a tractor”Tim was the boy’s 4-H leader for many years. He enjoyed taking them fishing. Tim enjoyed going to their athletic events and shouting from the stands. Tim really loved taking the boys to horse events he showed them that hard work and practice would pay off. Being a good father and grandfather was so important to him. He was so very proud of his family. Tim had to retire due to his health condition and moved in 2016 to Richardson TX for a short time. 2017 they moved to Grand Island NE. For a short time, Tim helped out at Franks boxing gym, teaching the young boxers. Theybought a ranch outside of GI in 2018 so Tim could have his horses and hoping this would be good therapy for him. Tim remained there until his health declined and Ann could no longer care for him by herself. Ann was fortunate to be a nurse so this was a benefit for Tim. In 2020 Tim entered Lancaster Rehabilitation due to its affiliation with the VA. Due to the Pandemic Ann had limited access to facility which was hard on, both of them. In 2021 They sold the ranch so Ann could move closer to Tim to visit and monitor his care daily. Tim had many boxing and horse accomplishments. He developed a quality breeding program and had all registered Quarter Horses. He loved Cutting, Penning and Sorting with his horses and buddies. He also was a very good pool player. Tim always gave a 110% at everything he did. Loved to socialize. He especially loved being around his family. He loved the annual Munn family reunions. It was important to him. Tim was blessed with 2 grandchildren and loved having them come stay and taking them out to the horses, fishing, pulling them on the sled in the snow. Tim never knew a stranger. He’s the guy who would pick up a hitch hiker. He always believed people needed respect and a chance in life. Tim is a lifelong member of the American Quarter Horse association, Nebraska Cutting Horse Association for years. American Legion. Tim is a member of the United Methodist Church of Central City.
