Walter Jennings Hosick Jr, 89, of North Platte formerly of Central City and McCook, died at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016. Funeral services will be Friday, February 26, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Janet Burgel officiating. Burial will be at the Central City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Veterans Memorial and condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Walter Jennings was born on December 27, 1926 in Central City to Walter J and Vera (Clark) Hosick. He grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School. Walter served in the United States Army from June 18, 1945 to October 12, 1946. He then attended the University of Nebraska where he graduated with a Masters degree in Pharmacy. Walter and Darlene Grace were united in marriage on January 31, 1953 in Central City. They made their home in Central City before moving to Alma where they opened Walt’s Drug. In 1965, they moved to McCook where they owned and operated Walt’s Drug. Walter retired in 1988 from the drugstore and then moved to North Platte in 1990. Walter was a member of the McCook Masonic Lodge 135, McCook Knights Templar, North Platte VFW 1504 and North Platte American Legion 0163. Those left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Carol and Val Kopke of Adamsville AL; Janet Young of North Platte; and Nancy and Jim Schneider of North Platte; grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; and his parents; Walter and Vera Hosick.
