Donna Lee Mate

Donna Lee Mate, 86, of Central City, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Central City Care Center in Central City. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Ben Polzkill officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Donna was born on September 30, 1930 to Homer and Lillian (Johnson) Horn in Fullerton, Nebraska. She received her elementary education at rural schools North of Fullerton and attended high school in Fullerton. She married Bernard Polzkill, of Fullerton, in 1947. The couple lived in Fullerton and Brady before moving to Central City in 1955. Bernard passed away in 1980.Donna later married Irving (Henry) Mate. Henry passed away in 2004. Over the years Donna worked for Wilders Café, Valley View and at the local grocery stores, Safeway and Jim’s Food Market. Donna enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, playing cards, cross stitching, dancing, and entertaining, but her greatest love was spending time with family and friends. She was also an avid bowler, bowling on leagues for many years in Central City and Grand Island. Donna was an active member of the United Methodist Church for many years as well, until her health prevented her from attending. Donna is survived by two sons- Robert (Bob) and Jean Polzkill of Central City; Bernard (Ben) and Cherry Polzkill of Palawan, Philippines; three daughters- Karen and Dennis Dunn of Lincoln; Diana and Curtis Williford of Palawan, Philippines; and Rhonda and Barry Blue of Omaha; two step daughters – Bonnie Keith and Germaine Kirspel of New Jersey; 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law- Johnnita Horn; and a brother&sister-in-law- Harley and Margaret (Polzkill) Riley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands; her twin sister –Darlene Bridger; four brothers- Earl, George (Pete), Ronnie, and Homer Horn; three sisters- MayrieSenske, Regina Stevens, and Katherine Horn; brothers-in-laws- Paul and John Polzkill, Don Bridger, Frances Senske and Bob Stevens; sister-in-laws- Edna, Donna and Margaret Horn and a daughter-in-law- Claire Polzkill.
