C. Dorothea Schwartz, 89, of Central City, NE, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital LTC in Central City. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Sister Mary Arie and Deacon Don Placke officiating. Visitation will also be Saturday, September 7, prior to the funeral, from 9-11 A.M., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Dorothea was born on September 5, 1923 in North Platte, Nebraska, to Edward and Bernadine (Tirrill) Clark. She grew up in various locations in Nebraska and Iowa. She also loved participating in school plays in Stapleton, NE where she graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to James Merle Matthews in 1944, they later divorced. She married Clarence Schwartz on June 14, 1947. The couple lived in North Platte where Dorothea was a First Grade Teacher at Osgood School. She retired from teaching in 1976. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and past member of the North Platte Eagles Auxiliary. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her family, her dogs, and her Long Term Care Family. She also enjoyed reading, going to garage sales and auctions hunting for “treasures”, and the town of Central City. She touched so many lives and some of the comments shared about her include, “She was one of the best ladies I’ve ever known; like a Grandma to me; a joy to spend time with; one of a kind; strong; funny; spunky; and a fighter.” Survivors left to cherish her memory include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Fran Schwartz of Eldersburg, MD, daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Steve Macey of Hudson, WI; and Deena and Mark Speer of Central City, NE, five grandchildren, Michael (Beccy) Schwartz, Christopher Schwartz and WillaWallace, Geoffery (Shannon) Schwartz, Ivie Speer and Jordanne Speer, and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence Schwartz in 2003, and an infant brother, Burdette Clark.
